Andrew Holmquist
APRIL 4 - MAY 4, 2025
North Loop West’s first show is a solo presentation of work by LA-based artist Andrew Holmquist. The exhibition will feature ceramic sculptures alongside paintings and works on paper including the artist’s 13 ft. tall L.A. Intersection, shown for the first time.
Holmquist’s new sculptures mark the artist’s shift towards abstraction and foray into the use of light. Unique glazes applied in tightly controlled color gradients and unconstrained spills evoke the wide, sensuous brushstrokes that make up the undulating landscapes and figures seen in his oil paintings.
The exhibition’s interplay between coexisting sculptural, painting and drawing practices underlines Holmquist’s ever-evolving relationship to using abstraction to conjure the amalgamation of plant life and urban infrastructure that defines so much of the visual experience of living in LA.
